WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES IN RAJASTHAN
BHARATPUR
BIRD SANCTUARY
Tranquil environment, chirping of the birds, a variety of fauna and nature
at its best spread everywhere - that's Bharatpur. Located between two of
India's most visited tourist destinations- Agra and Jaipur, it is a place
where you have always wanted to come. The Park is also reputed as Keoladeo
National Park and takes its name from the God Keoladeo, an aspect of Lord
Shiva, enshrined in a small temple within the park.
KEOLADEO NATIONAL PARK

Spread
over an area of little over 232 sq. kms, Keoladeo is definitely a paradise
of feathered species. There are well-defined treks within the park that are
best covered on foot or on a bicycle. The park can also be explored on the
boat, which is also quite a rewarding experience.
Park Population : The park offers more than 375 species of feathered
species, mammals and reptiles. With the onset of winters, several migratory
birds also come but the special attraction, however, remains the arrival of
the rare Siberian Crane. Other major attractions of the park include Coot
Snipes, Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porhard, Rosy Pelican, Flamingo and
Pythons. In addition to this, Spotted Deer, Sambhars, Blue Bull, Black Buck,
Jackals, Otters, Fishing Cats and Monitor Lizards can also be spotted.
Best Time To Visit : The best season for visiting
this place is between October to February when the park comes alive with the
chirping of migratory birds.
VAN
VIHAR RAMSAGAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The
breathtaking beauty of the park is spread across an area of about 60 sq.
kms. The sanctuary can be divided into two parts namely Van Vihar &
Ramsagar. Van Vihar, located on Vindhyan plateau, supports a rather open
stunted growth of Dhok and Khair trees. Ramsagar part of the sanctuary has
the picturesque Ramsagar Lake.
Park Population : The sanctuary is
inhibited by species like Sambhar, Chital, Blue Bull, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear,
Hyena and Leopard. Ramsagar Lake is populated with fresh water crocodiles
and a variety of fishes and snakes. White-Breasted Water Hen, Moorhen,
Jacanas, Stilt, River Tern, Ringed Plover, Sand Piper and Herons (grey, and
purple) are also quite common here. In addition to this, countless migratory
ducks and geese also visit the lake in good numbers.
Best Time To Visit : The beauty of the park is best
enjoyed during the months of October to February.
