of Interest in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort
Crowned over the Trikuta Hill, the golden yellow sandstone of
Jaisalmer Fort dates back to more than 800 years. The Fort is a home to more
than half of the population of Jaisalmer and the colorful streets within the
fort make it a totally special place. It is approached through Ganesh Pol,
Suraj Pol, Bhoot Pol and Hawa Pol. The fort also houses many beautiful
havelies and a group of Jain temples that date back from the 12th to the
15th centuries.
Gadsisar Tank, Jaisalmer
The huge Gadsisar Tank was once the main source of water supply to the
city. In winters, a variety of birds flock here and make the whole
environment enchanting. The beautiful arched gateway across the road down to
the tank adds to its attraction. There are countless temples and tanks
located around the lake that attract devotees from far off places.
Manak Chowk, Jaisalmer
Though a lot has been changed during the course of history but the
attraction of Manak Chowk has remained the same. Various lanes with
exquisitely carved havelis lead to the chowk that remains abuzz, most of the
time, with various activities. Patwon-ki-Haveli is one of the most exquisite
havelis with a beautiful latticed facade.
