Places of interest in Delhi
Red Fort
The huge Red Fort is one of the major
landmarks in Delhi. It contains, within its premises, several palaces and
impressive building that include Diwal-i-aam, Diwan-i-khas, Rang Mahal,
Pearl Mosque and Lahore Gate.
Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar- the soaring 240ft tower of victory was built immediately after
the defeat of the last Hindu King of Delhi. It symbolizes the Islamic Rule
during the medieval period. The tower has five distinct storeys, each marked
by a projecting balcony. The intricate carving depicting the verses from
Quran give it a totally distinct look.
Humayun's Tomb
The great tomb exhibits an example of the excellence of the Mughal
architecture. It displays elements of Mughal design that later incorporated
into the Taj Mahal in Agra. The tomb houses a squat building with high
arched entrances. It also has well laid out gardens with beautiful tombs.
Jama Masjid
The splendid Jama Masjid dates back to the time immemorial. It has a huge
courtyard that can hold more than 25,000 devotees at a time. The highly
decorative mosque has three great gateways, four towers and two 135ft high
minarets constructed of red sandstone and white marble.
